Yesterday I made lotion for my (soon-to-be) sister-in-law’s birthday! It turned out AMAZING. So I wanted to share the recipe here.

Also in news land…Benjamin and I are engaged!  To tie the two together…here is a picture of this delicious lotion and my engagement ring – a super simple gold ring with turquoise stone. I LOVE this ring. He did good. We are both excited!

This recipe filled about 8- 4 oz bottles.

The Process

Before you make lotion you need to sanitize all of your equipment and workspace. You can make a solution of 16 oz water and 1 oz bleach. Wipe everything down, allow to sit for 5 minutes and then wipe dry using paper towels. You shouldn’t need to wash or sanitize containers if they are packaged from a supplier. If you have one, wear a hair net and wear gloves.

Step 1 – Boil distilled water in a kettle.

Step 2 – Weigh out all of the oil phase ingredients and melt in the microwave.

Step 3 – Weigh out 700 grams from the boiled distilled water.

Step 4 – Once the temperatures of both the water and melted oil phase ingredients are both at around 160-170F, combine. Magic happens.

Step 5 – Mix with a stick blender for about a minute. The mixture will be white, but still quite liquid.

Step 6 – Put in the fridge to cool to 120F. Stir occasionally while cooling.

Step 7 – Add essential oils and preservative. Mix with stick blender one more time.

Step 8 – Pour into bottles. Do not cap until the lotion has completely cooled down or condensation will form and could cause mold to grow.

ENJOY your lotion!
