Keep your workspace free from distractions, small children, and\npets. &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Equipment<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>Digital scale<\/li><li>Stick blender<\/li><li>Dry lye container<\/li><li>Lye solution container<\/li><li>Batch container (microwave-safe)<\/li><li>3 mixing containers<\/li><li>Glass container <\/li><li>Infrared thermometer gun (optional)<\/li><li>Silicone spatulas<\/li><li>10-inch silicone loaf mold<\/li><li>Measuring spoons<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Ingredients<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Base Oils (900 grams)<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>Coconut oil, 76 deg \u2013 360 grams (40%)<\/li><li>Cocoa butter \u2013 135 grams (15%)<\/li><li>Olive oil \u2013 405 grams (45%)<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Lye Solution<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>Sodium hydroxide \u2013 132 grams<\/li><li>Distilled water \u2013 264 grams <\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Scent<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>Basil essential oil \u2013 10 grams<\/li><li>Orange essential oil \u2013 10 grams&nbsp; <\/li><li>Spearmint essential oil \u2013 10 grams<\/li><li>Fir needle essential oil \u2013 9 grams<\/li><li>Bitter almond essential oil \u2013 6 grams&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; <\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Colorants\/Additives<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>Zinc oxide \u2013 1 tablespoon<\/li><li>Ground coffee \u2013 1 teaspoon<\/li><li>Cosmetic charcoal \u2013 2 teaspoons<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Prep\nahead: Weigh the essential oils\ninto a glass container; blend together. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Step 1: Weigh the water into your lye solution container. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Step 2: Weigh the sodium hydroxide into your dry lye\ncontainer.&nbsp; <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Step 3: Following safety precautions, pour the sodium\nhydroxide into the water while stirring. &nbsp;Turn your head\nand lean away from the lye solution. Stir until all the granules have\ndissolved. Set aside to cool. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Step 4: Weigh and melt the solid oils and butters.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Step 5: Weigh the liquid oils into the melted oils and\nbutters. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Step 6: Add your essential oils to the prepared base oils and\nblend. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Step 7: Check the temperature of your base oil mixture and lye solution. For a swirled soap, a good range for both mixtures is between 80\u00b0F and 90\u00b0F. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Step 8: Pour the lye solution into your melted oils and mix to\nemulsion or light trace. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Step 9: Divide your soap into 3 equal parts to color.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Step 10:\nAdd the zinc oxide to one\ncontainer, the coffee grounds to another, and the charcoal powder to the third.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Step 11: Using the tiger stripe swirl technique (see video), pour a portion of each color in straight lines down the center of the mold. I like to run mine for a long time in the coffee grinder to get more of a powder.
