Issue three of the Soap Collaborative is out!  My article, Naturally Colored Heart and Layers, shows you a layering technique using natural colorants and an adorable heart embed.

I wanted to share the recipe and molds I used.  To get the full tutorial, purchase the back issue here!  And the best part?!  By purchasing the Soap Collaborative you are helping to support Lovin’ Soap Project!  Thank you!

The Palm Free Recipe:

Olive oil – 12 oz
Coconut oil – 12 oz
Avocado oil – 2 oz
Rice bran oil – 2 oz
Shea butter – 4 oz
Lye – 4.5 oz
Water – 9 oz

Natural Colorants Used:

Calendula – (marigold) dried flower petals are golden/yellow and add a beautiful color/texture to cold process soap

Olive Leaf Powder – gives soap a greenish tan hue and is said to have astringent and antiseptic properties (great for a shave soap!)

Yellow Dock Root Powder – is my favorite natural herb for getting a beautiful natural red in cold process soap.  Starting as yellow/tan, when added to the high pH environment of soap it turn a deep crimson red color, perfect for the heart embed.

Essential Oil Blend:

30 g lavender
30 g litsea

Molds used:

10″ Silicone Loaf from Bramble Berry

Mini Heart Silicone Embed Mold from Bramble Berry
